Make Security a Big Priority in 2017
Improving Security in the New Year
It’s now December and 2016 is wrapping up. That means many of us are looking toward 2017 and setting some resolutions for the new year. As we do so, it’s important to consider the importance of security.
If you own or operate a business, it’s a good idea to consider resolving to improve security in 2017.
There are many reasons why.
New Security Technologies
Depending on when you installed your current security set-up, technology may have changed a great deal since then. For example, you may not have considered physical security in the past for a number of reasons. When you set up your system, there’s chance that you thought gates and bars were too expensive, too complicated to use, or too visually distracting.
However, modern security gates have resolved many of those issues.
For example, while stationary bars may have been the most popular option when you initially set up your business security system, rolling and folding gates are now available. These gates have many benefits. They can quickly and easily be rolled or folded out of sight during business hours, so that they don’t detract from the overall appearance of your business. Security gates can also be keyed alike, making it significantly more convenient to lock and unlock the gates.
If you haven’t investigated business security solutions in a while, it could be a good idea to do so as we enter 2017. Most people don’t think about security until they need it. Rather than wait for a crime to take place (which can be costly and very damaging to your business) why not be proactive and review your system now? Not only will you be able to enter 2017 on a positive note, having reviewed and improved your security, but you’ll also better protect yourself from potential crime.
Review Possible Threats
When you’re considering your security set-up, it’s important that you don’t just focus on your own security. To better protect your business, it’s a very good idea to spend some time analyzing potential threats.
For example, has there been increased civil unrest in your area? If your business is located in a region that has seen a great deal of political or societal change, the likelihood of civil unrest (protests, demonstrations, etc.) could potentially increase. If you believe this is possible, it can be a good idea to take action to secure your location before it’s too late.
It’s also important to review area crime statistics. If there has been an increase in a particular type of crime, you may wish to improve security to protect yourself from potential threats.
However, it’s always important to remember that crime is often unpredictable. Moments of civil unrest can occur nearly anywhere and they can go from peaceful to potentially dangerous in a very short amount of time and with very little warning. The same is true for many other crimes.
Often, crimes happen because a criminal sees an opportunity. If a criminal walks by your business and recognizes that your property is not secure, he or she may strike without warning. This is another reason why placing a focus on security as we head into 2017 is so important. You never know when crime is going to occur, so it makes sense to be prepared.
